Gong Show: Gene, Gene The Dancing Machine genre: Tongue-In-Cheek & Video-Philes

As a kid, I used to watch the Gong Show. Recently I saw the movie "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind", the movie about Gong Show host Chuck Barris and his assertions that he was a CIA operative. I enjoyed the movie and although I have no idea about whether Barris was actually an agent for the CIA or not, I always found him to be a brilliant mind. Perhaps that's more about my curiosity with psychology and human behavior than about any verifiable genius...but I tend to equate those who push the edges of life in the absence of any existing templates with the novel thinking that typifies the nature of genius.

Nice memories. It made me think of another progressive possibility for the Comedy Channel. We could call it The Bong Show, maybe...

Kevin,

Thanks for commenting. I'm glad you share in my nostalgia. I also got a chuckle out of your suggested Comedy Central program idea. I know Bill Maher would be all for it...even though he is with HBO.

I hope to hear more of your thoughts.

I just wonder what ever happened to Flash Beaver. Another dancer on the show. Wasn't quite as prolific as Gene.
